US Spectrum Auction Continues To Slow

The US spectrum auction is grinding to a halt…last week the increase in the total amount bid was slowing down, now it seems the number of bids are slackening too. Over the last few rounds there has been an average of 140 new bids per round. “The three previous rounds had averaged 170 new bids per round, and the three rounds before those garnered 240 bids on average.”
For mine, the really interesting part happens when the bidding is over and the companies announce exactly what they plan to do with the spectrum, and the analysts start talking about the effect on the industry.
Anyway, here’s the top 10 bidders as reported by RCR.
—1. T-Mobile $3.9 billion
—2. Verizon Wireless $2.8 billion
—3. SpectrumCo $2.2 billion
—4. MetroPCS $1.4 billion
—5. Cingular $1.2 billion
—6. Cricket $901.6 million
—7. Denali Spectrum $274.1 million
—8. AWS Wireless $108.3 million
—9. Barat Wireless $92.5 million
—10. Atlantic Wireless $79.2 million
