The Mobile ESPN Patent

MacNN is reporting that Disney has filed a patent covering the delivery of ESPN content to mobile phones and devices, which he uses to argue for a possible ESPN-branded iPod, or at least ESPN content on a wireless iPod. And of course it covers phones as well, probably for the MVNO or the latter licensing system. Yet I’m confused…
“Disney describes that the content that will be made available on their new mobile GUI will correspond to sports-related content provided by Mobile ESPN, such as RealTime scores, sports-related news, commentary, video and statistics, software applications, e.g., for managing fantasy sports teams, and other sports-related content.”
I’m not sure what possible good a patent for the delivery of ESPN content will do, since Disney controls the availability of ESPN content via copyright anyway. It seems this patent is functionally useless.
