NarniaMiami Vice has made it to the mobile phone, with Player X landing the deal with Universal Studios to create the mobile game based on the upcoming movie, which of course was based on the television series. There’s no info on the game, but the film is due for release in July. Player X is a British company that has been puttering steadily along acquiring brand licenses—this is arguably the biggest one yet and if they get it right it should lead into even more deals.
Artificial Life is getting preloaded onto Sony Ericsson phones in Hong Kong thanks to a deal with BPI, the exclusive resellers of the handsets in the area. “This is a great opportunity for us to expand our sales channels. For our clients it is cheaper and more convenient to receive our games right on the phone when they purchase it—no need for downloads or binding contracts with certain operators to get access to our games. We intend to sign similar deals in several more territories around the globe,” said Eberhard Schoeneburg, CEO of Artificial Life, Inc. In case you’ve forgotten, Artificial Life behind V-Girl, Virtual Boyfriend, Virtual Disco and Virtual Penguins.
Id has another mobile game based on the engine created for its Doom RPG game, which was pretty successful. “With the help of a magical talking wand, players explore an ancient Dwarven fortress riddled with legendary beasts and untold treasures.” I hope this is signficantly different from Doom RPG and not just different graphics.
Living Mobile has announced plans to release two new roleplaying games in the spring of 2006… Beyblade GRevolution and Narnia Tactics, based on the TV show and movie of the same names. In Beyblade there’s a tournament that has to be won, and in Narnia players can take up a variety of characters (the kids, of course, plus others) and find the strengths and weaknesses. The Narnia one might actually be out already—it was due for launch on April 13 along with the DVD.
Lastly, Glu has scored the deal with Microsoft to port Project Gotham Racing to mobile.
