Comcast Buys A Blog To Add To Its List of Philadelphia Sports Properties

Comcast’s domination of local sports in its headquarters city of Philadelphia now extends to the local sports blogosphere. Regional sports network Comcast SportsNet has purchased The700Level.com, a sports blog in the city. Enrico Capitelli Jr.—who started the site seven years ago—tells us he’s joining Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) SportsNet full-time, while the site’s three other contributors have been given freelance deals. In a blog post, Campinelli assures his readers that the blog will keep its “editorial independence” while at the same time be able to tap “the unique access, technology, and resources of Comcast SportsNet.”

By buying The700Level, Comcast SportsNet not only gains control of what is likely the top sports blog in the city (the site has about 100,000 unique visitors a month), but also gets to beef up content on its own site, CSNphilly.com, which already includes several sports blogs and will now also feature content from The700Level, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced. In addition to Comcast SportsNet, Comcast owns a majority stake in the Philadelphia Flyers, the 76ers, as well as two arenas, via its holdings in Comcast-Spectator.

I am always curious if a client like T Mobile pays for every repressed banner ad that any online ad network sends. So many people use Ad Blocking Software that I would guess 30% of end users won't ever see the ad.
