Direct-to-consumer player, San Jose-based PlayPhone, has raised a relatively big second round of funding: $9.1 million, led by Menlo Ventures. PlayPhone’s current investor, Cardinal Venture Partners, has joined with Menlo to participate in this new round of financing.
PlayPhone launched its subscription service about 18 months ago, and offers a portfolio of mobile games alongside ringtones, real tones and other mobile content. The company intends to use the funding to expand its D2C services, as well as its B2B partners that are powered by the PlayPhone platform.
