Nokia Takes Wraps of New Music Community, Hardware
From our sister site MocoNews: If you connect the dots, Nokia is putting together the pieces for one of the industry’s most ambitious mobile music offers, though the Ngage disaster still probably sends shudders through their corridors. On the content side, Nokia has recruited 40 independent and influential music stores worldwide (including Fat Beats in New York, Pure Groove in Chicago, Monza Records in Tokyo and Hard Wax in Berlin) and David Bowie to “keep music enthusiasts in touch with the latest tracks and help them discover new artists”. Users of Nokia’s Music Recommender service (available in beta in November) can register to receive an instant playlist of 30 second samples tailored specifically to their tastes and purchase the tracks they like, the company says. Once a month, users will receive the latest music recommendations delivered direct to their email inbox. Nokia is careful not to use the word “mobile” in its official announcement, but the scheme will no doubt have a mobile element. And the fit with Loudeye to build a comprehensive and converged music offer couldn’t be better. Nokia also announced several new devices (or multimedia computers, as Nokia calls them) including the Nokia N75, designed specifically for the American market, and a music editions of their Nokia N70, Nokia N73 and Nokia N91 models. To round out the offer Nokia took the wraps off a Bluetooth headsets and music accessories including mini music speakers and stereo headsets.
