NCC Issues Licenses For Mobile TV Trial Broadcast

Taiwan’s National Communications Commission has issued four licenses to trial mobile TV in the country—three trials will be DVB-H and one will be MediaFLO. Three of the companies are TV stations and one is a mobile operator. The DVB-H triallists consist of Public Television Service (Channel 36); China Television (CTV, Channel 35) and Chung-Hwa Wideband Best Network (Tw-Airnet, Channel 36) while MediaFLO is being tested by Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV, Channel 53).
“NCC’s screening committee has selected four business groups from a pool of five for the issuing of a trial broadcast license for mobile digital TV. NCC originally planned to issue six licenses, one for each of the three specified radio frequency bands, Channels 35 (596-602MHz), 36 (602-608MHz), 53 (704-710MHz), for two regions in northern and southern Taiwan, according to NCC. However, no group competed for Channels 35 and 53 in the southern region, resulting in four licenses, the agency pointed out. The NCC said it would hold another screening to select trial operators for the two channels in southern Taiwan.”
