MobiTV Crosses 1 Million Subscriber Mark; Goes Online With Microsoft

You read it here first…MobiTV, the only mobile video service with some amount of traction in the U.S. market (well, it has customers..that usually helps) has crossed the one million subscriber mark, the company is going to announce at CTIA. It launched in Nov 2003, announced its 500K mark about six months ago, and now has 1 million customers. These numbers are worldwide, not just U.S.
Would be interesting to know how many are paying for the premium channels and some usage data, but the company hasn’t released those figures. The MobiTV service is available in the US through Sprint, Cingular, Alltel; in the UK through 3 and Orange UK; and to Canadian customers through Bell Canada, Rogers and TELUS Mobility; and other regional carriers around the world.
In a related announcement, the company has tied up with Microsoft to bring its service to Windows Mobile-powered phones and devices. Also, in an interesting move, it has gone online (as opposed to online service trying to expand into mobile): the service will be available on Windows XP-based PCs and laptops, soon.
