Aussie telco Optus has launched a service with Lonely Planet called CityPicks, which are basically destination guides for more than 40 cities around the world with at least 50 recommendations per city. This is a pretty neat idea since many people travel to places for a short amount of time (for business or on a stop over) and don’t want to get a whole travel guide. Each CityPick costs AU$6.60, which is a fair amount for mobile content but not much for decent travel information. This comment is also interesting: “We know from the European experience that people often download guides to their dream destinations, even if they are not travelling immediately”.
