Mobile Music Downloads Growth Slowing In Japan

RIAJ LogoThe growth of digital downloads is slowing in Japan, although mobile music is faring better than its PC counterpart, according to the Recording Industry of Japan (RIAJ).
In the second quarter of this year there were 84.55 million mobile phone music downloads, compared to 83.03 million from the first quarter and 57.87 million from the second quarter 2005. This represents revenue of ¥11.29 billion ($97 million) in Q2 2006, up from ¥10.93 billion ($94 million) in the first quarter and ¥7.37 billion ($63.3 million) a year ago.
For comparison, internet downloads increased by 24,000 units to 5.94 million, or 1.26 billion yen ($10.83 million).
