Mobile Entertainment To Hit US$77 Billion By 2011—Juniper

Juniper Research has released some predictions about the global entertainment market, claiming that the whole shebang— comprising gambling, adult content, mobile games, mobile music and mobile TV—is currently worth US$17 billion but will grow to US$47 billion by 2009 and US$77 billion by 2011. Over the next five years Europe is forecast to contribute 35% of the total and Asia Pacific 37%.
Currently the majority of revenue comes from ringtones and infortainment, but Juniper expects that to be diluted—although how much each specific segment will contribute isn’t outlined.
“By 2011 Juniper Research believes that revenues from mobile games and mobile TV will have overtaken those generated by mobile music despite strong growth in revenues from full track music…The value of bets placed though mobile gambling will also have exceeded the value of the mobile music industry, with betting one of the few mobile entertainment sectors that will not see product price erosion.” That being said, there’s a difference between how much is bet and how much revenue the gambling companies get.
