MFD Expands Reach, Launches Mobile TV Services In More Major German Cities

According to a German-language press release, Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland GmbH (MFD), which has secured spectrum from local media authorities to broadcast TV signals to mobile phones using the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcast) standard, has launched mobile TV services in the metropolitan cities of Duesseldorf, Essen und Bonn. The cities have a combined population of 1.5 million. To date MFD delivers mobile TV services to users across 16 cities and regions (but no word on how many of the over 16 million residents use the service.) MDF plans to grow the service, known as watcha, from four to “at least eight channels.” It also features bigFM2See, a Visual Radio station.
