Google Expands Mobile Advertising Tests to 8 Countries
First, Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt said that - in Google’s perfect world – mobile phones should be free to users who agree to watch ads on their devices, and then Google quietly expands its own mobile ad testing to cover eight countries. What a coincidence! Thanks to this article, we know the countries (China, Australia, France, India, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain), but Google so far will not detail whether it has actually sealed deals with mobile service providers in these countries. Google began testing text-only ads earlier this year in the U.S., Germany, Japan and the U.K. In Japan, Google is known to be experimenting with mobile ads consisting of brief video clips and images. Arch rival Yahoo broke on to the scene this week with a partnership with Vodafone to offer graphical display ads.
