Disney Exec: Mobile TV Is Going To Be Huge

Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney-ABC TV, gave a talk on Disney’s attitude to new media content at Mipcom.
After quoting ABI Research that mobile television could be a global market worth as much as $27 billion by 2010, she said that fear of piracy had driven Disney to eat of the new media content pie.
“We now understand that piracy is a business model. It exists to serve a need in the market—specifically consumers who want TV content on demand. And piracy competes for consumers the same way we do—through quality, price and availability.”
Also, Disney seems to want partners who are interested in building a successful channel with or without Disney, rather than partners that are looking for good licensing deals.
“In looking for new-media ventures, Sweeney said, “We want partners who believe in their own products and services enough to market them aggressively instead of relying on our content to drive their sales.”
Our correspondent Jemima Kiss was also at Mipcom, her post is here at PaidContent. There’s more information than the RCR story linked to in the heading, but it’s not mobile focused.
