Digital Chocolate’s 11% Figure

Last week I linked to a post saying that Trip Hawkins had said Digital Chocolate has 11% marketshare...Trip has clarified that figure for us: “What I said at the Mobile Games Conference was that our share of Featured Placement on the leading US carriers had grown in the last year from 0% to 11% in a study of featured positions in recent months. This was an internal study focused on what we consider truly featured placement, eg front page of a category like “What’s Hot.” I’ve noticed that market research firms like M:Metrics call a lot more real estate “featured” and report that Digital Chocolate has a lot more slots, but I don’t consider these broader definition, it is too broad to be considered truly “featured.”
Obviously Trip sees this increase not only as a vindication of his strategy but as evidence that carriers now agree with him.
