US operator Cingular Wireless will debut new music singles from top artists as ringtones on its network before those songs make their traditional radio debut…Cingular said it will launch the “Cingular Sounds” program with the new Coldplay track “Speed of Sound.” The song does not release to radio until April 18 and the band’s new album is not due until early June.
Billboard.biz: In return for gaining exclusive rights to debut songs, Cingular will give new releases visible placement on its website and top billing on its phone-based ringtone store, and will e-mail and text message subscribers notifying them of the new song’s availability. Cingular will also promote the offering in radio, TV and print advertising.
