Chinese 3G Could Be Delayed Until 2008

There’s a report on the introduction of 3G into China by SeekingAlpha which indicates that the Chinese government may not issue 3G licenses until 2008, due to political reasons rather than technical ones. While there is likely to be a TD-SCDMA-based 3G network running in the five Olympic cities by the Olympic games, that service could be regarded as a trial or a soft launch, with other 3G licenses to other carriers withheld until a future date.
