Broadcom Seeking Injunction Against Qualcomm’s 3G Business

Broadcom has said it would seek an injunction against Qualcomm preventing it from making, using, selling or developing cellular chips based on contested patents in WCDMA and EV-DO cellular chips, reports AP. The announcement comes two days after Broadcom chose to accept a reduced damage award of $19.6 million rather than retry the case—Broadcom was originally awarded double but U.S. District Court Judge James V. Selna overturned his own ruling after an unrelated case raised the bar on what was considered wilful infringement. It also comes a couple of months after Qualcomm won an appeal staying a ban by the ITC on importing certain chips. Broadcom seems to be going after an effective reinstatement of that ban.
