For a pure content aggregator, this is an unusually big first round: Seattle-based Blue Frog Mobile, which sells ringtones, games and graphics for mobile phones off the deck, has raised $16 million in a first round of VC financing. The round was led by Canaan Partners and also included MK Capital.
Currently, Blue Frog sells its content through five off-deck sites that target specific demographic groups—LemonKiss.com, MackTones.com, Ringtopia.com, EdgeTones.com and PrideBeat.com.
Blue Frog employs about 75 people, 25 in the Seattle area. It also maintains a development center in the Philippines.
