Best Buy, Carphone Warehouse To Open 1,000 Stores In US

The partnership of Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse to have mobile concept stores seems to be working, with Carphone Warehouse announcing that the two companies will open 1,000 Best Buy Mobile stores across the US by 2009. Back in June they were looking at 190 stores in the US. Most of the expansion will be in the mobile section of Best Buy stores, but there are also plans for 10 standalone stores specifically for mobile. “Each standalone store is approximately 1,500 square feet, while the store-within-a-store takes up about 800 square feet of display space” reports Information Week. Best Buy will fund the creation of the US-based mobile retail venture and Carphone Warehouse will receive a share of the incremental profits.
