@ WWDC: 6 Million iPhones Sold In First Year; 3G Is Here

imageJobs came on stage to announce the 3G iPhone to a ton of hoots and hollers. But there’s more; he said that in a few weeks, the phone will have its first birthday, at which point they have sold 6 million iPhones (remember their target this year is to sell 10 million).

Here’s what makes Jobs happy:
—90 percent customer sat
—98 percent are browsing
—94 percent are using email
—90 percent use text messaging
—80 percent use 10 features.

“6 million iPhones sold this year, and we are pretty thrilled with this, and we did figure out what our next challenges are. The next mountain we have to climb to go to the next level—3G….“It’s beautiful. It’s thinner at the edges. Full plastic back, solid metal buttons, 3.5 inch display, camera, flush headphone jack. “It’s really great, and it feels even better in your hand,” Jobs said. 3G is approaching Wi-Fi speeds.

3G features:
—Enterprise support
—Standby time: 300 hours
—2G talk time, 8 hrs to 10 hrs.
—3G Talk: 5 hrs (others are at 3.5 hrs)
—Browsing: 5-6 hrs.
—Video: 7 hrs
—Audio: 24 hrs.
—GPS: built-in to the 3G iPhone: Location services is going to be a big deal on the iPhone, it’s going to explode, and of course we get data from cell towers, we get location data from Wi-Fi, and also now GPS
—Countries: 6 today, and 25 countries is the stretch goal over the next several months.
