Vodafone UK Launches Flat Rate Plans

This was suggested earlier by El Reg, but ZDNet UK has some specific details… Vodafone UK has launched a data package, 7.50 pounds per month (US$14.84) for 120 MB. Vodafone is pretty late to the game, and said the timing would make sense in the context of some initiatives due to be announced in June. It’s also not particularly impressive—3UK offers a GB for the same price. Also, Vodafone is “discouraging” the use of VoIP and instant messaging under the plan, and may charge more if those services are used. If the data limit is passed Vodafone will charge one pound a day for up to 15 MB, and then two pounds for each MB above that. All in all, this isn’t going to do anything to drastically increase the use of mobile data to the daily use enjoyed by PCs… although it will allow semi-regular surfing.
