Viva Vision Launches Star Wars Collection; On Pace To Double Revenues This Year
Viva Vision has the force and it’s using it. The Santa Monica, Calif.-based company just launched Star Wars Collection, a new mobile slideshow that features images and trivia from the entire Star Wars catalog on Verizon (NYSE: VZ), Alltel (NYSE: AT) and MetroPCS. THQ (NSDQ: THQI) Wireless, which has the mobile rights to the Star Wars catalog and has developed mobile games, partnered with the company. “It’s really designed for the major Star Wars fan,” President Nick Montes told us in an interview. The application, which refreshes content twice a week with new trivia, images and categories, costs between $4 to $4.50 a month depending on the carrier. The average customer likely won’t put up with the recurring fees for too long, but a few months is enough. “Most consumers stay on for three to four months,” Montes said. Like the company’s other mobile slideshows, Star Wars Collection has a favorites folder where users can save their favorite images for later viewing and a rating system for trivia questions.
Viva Vision is on pace to double its revenue from a year ago and now has eight to 10 products available with various carriers. Montes: “We’ve created a new content category… We took a static image asset… and converted it to a mobile entertainment product.” Many firms are seeing wallpaper sales decline, but Montes believes Viva Vision has tapped into an opportunity to revive the business. Viva Vision is also in the process of expanding its distribution to other carriers in new territories, such as Israel, Europe, China and India. It also hopes to extend its products to more users with a WAP offering and applications for smartphones.
