Virgin Mobile USA has launched Headliner, an application it refers to as an interactive mobile music magazine. The service is $2.49 a month to subscribe, and offers a database of thousands of artists and bands from every music genre, upcoming concert tour dates, music festival coverage, and albums and shows. It will also offer daily breaking news, Billboard music charts, exclusive artist profiles, biographies and discographies…and there’s SMS notifcations. This is a good fit for Virgin’s demographic, which downloaded more than 14.8 million ringtones in 2006 and more than 4.6 million in the first quarter of this year—more than one for each customer each quarter.
