VeriSign’s m-Cube Pays $500,000 To Florida Attorney General For Fraudulent Ringtone Ads

m-Qube, a VeriSign (NSDQ: VRSN) subsidiary, has agreed to pay the Florida Attorney General’s Office $500,000 for allegedly billing for ringtones that were promoted through fraudulent ads, the ClickZ Network reports. The Watertown, MA-based mobile content firm agreed to adopt and enforce strict standards for online ads through a settlement with the attorney general’s office, which will continue monitoring the firm through its cyberfraud division. “The department has been systematically chipping away at sectors of the mobile content industry, apparently in the hopes of getting players representing each step in the process to apply pressure to their own partners,” ClickZ added. In February, AT&T (NYSE: T) settled with the Florida agency for $3 million for “deceptively-advertised mobile content in wireless bills.” Earlier this year the agency said it was also launching investigations into Verizon (NYSE: VZ), Sprint (NYSE: S), T-Mobile and Alltel.
