US Mobile Phone Retail War

There’s a retail war in the US for the lion’s share of the 35 percent of the mobile retail business that isn’t done through the mobile carriers. RadioShack has a lot of stores and experience selling mobile phones, Walmart has a huge reach and Best Buy has a good brand and a partnership with Carphone Warehouse, the number one independent phone retailer in Europe—plus it sells phones from 8 carriers rather than just a couple, reports Investor’s Business Daily via Yahoo. As competition heats up these retailers are likely to seek other ways to attract customers and sell more per customer, which will likely involve deals with major content providers. I wouldn’t be surprised if broadcasters like Modeo that can’t get a carrier deal go independent through the retail chain.
