About nine local U.S. TV station groups have formed a mobile TV alliance, called Open Mobile Video Coalition, they said in an announcement this weekend at NAB (which is being held in Las Vegas this week). The nine groups include, Belo Corp., Fox Television Stations, Gannett Broadcasting, Gray Television, ION Media Networks, the NBC and Telemundo Stations, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and Tribune Broadcasting. Combined, they represent more than 280 TV stations covering 95 million households and 49 of the top 50 markets. Other are open to joins.
The objective: to promote the development of industry technical standards and objectives for broadcasters, equipment manufacturers, service operators, content developers and consumers; driving regulatory support; and promoting consumer adoption of mobile digital broadcast TV.
