Upgraded iPhone App Makes Xbox LIVE More Mobile And Social

Indie developer Juan Xavier Larrea has released a new version of his 360 Live iPhone app, that lets Xbox LIVE users sign in to their accounts, keep tabs on friends and send messages from their iPhones.

The app initially launched in September, but the upgraded version now syncs directly to Xbox LIVE. 360 Live isn’t a Microsoft-branded app, but its just the latest tool aimed at making the Xbox LIVE network even more social and mobile: Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) recently added Twitter and Facebook access to the Xbox 360 console.

Gamers can use the app to add and remove friends, check on other players’ achievements and scores, as well as have a portable record of their own Xbox LIVE stats handy for bragging rights. Larrea is charging $2 for the app, which as PC World notes, is a violation of Microsoft’s policies; the company told developers last year that if they wanted to pull in Xbox LIVE data (likely for free), then they couldn’t charge for their apps. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will get Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) to ban 360 Live, since it can’t do anything to stop Larrea from selling it outright.
