Trutap Launches Mobile Social Network After $7.7 Million In Funding
London-based mobile social network company Trutap launched in closed beta on Monday, offering a downloadable application that works in more than 200 countries on most of the world’s most popular phones. Trutap has raised $7.7 million in funding ($1.2 million from angels and founders and a $6.5 million first round from Boston’s Tudor Ventures) and will focus on countries where broadband penetration is relatively low and teens are most likely to access the web through mobile phones, reports VentureBeat. It does all the normal things a mobile social network does and integrates mobile widgets for Flickr, Blogger and others. Trutap plans to differentiate by partnering with major social networks and carriers and is working on building a mobile ad-serving technology—which indicates a business model.
