Total Users Downloading Video To their Phones Could Climb To 80 Million By 2012—Report Says
Near-term prospects for mobile video might not give us reason to break out the champagne, but the growth trajectory is nonetheless significant, according to new research from research and markets. No mention of the methodology - but plenty of detail in the forecasts.
Among the key findings:
• Total users purchasing mobile video services could rise from 5 million at end-2006 to almost 80 million by end-2012
• Revenues from the sale of mobile video (not including ad revenues) could reach $10.2 billion in 2012
• The number of mobile video devices in the U.S. could increase from 50 million at end-2006 to nearly 200 million by end-2012
On the downside the path to a more mainstream take-up of mobile video service is blocked by several issues, including, confusion about technology standards, the lack of a solid business model and the limitation of closed carrier systems. (Release)
