Updated: T-Mobile USA Is Down; Now Affecting 5 Percent Of Subscribers
Customers are reporting that T-Mobile USA is experiencing a widespread service disruption that is affecting both voice calls and text messages. In a statement, the company said: “T-Mobile customers may be experiencing service disruptions impacting voice and data. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as more information is available.”
UPDATE: At 9:10 p.m. EST, T-Mobile issued a new statement saying that the outage is now affecting 5 percent of its subscribers. “We’re making good progress restoring voice and messaging service to affected customers. At this time, approximately 5 percent of T-Mobile customers are experiencing service disruptions. Issues began at approximately 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. Our rapid response team is working continuously to fully resolve this disruption. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused our customers.”
While the Bellevue, Wash.-based operator was not willing to say how extensive the outage is, some customer service representatives are telling subscribers that it is nationwide. One customer in Atlanta told mocoNews that his service has been out for more than an hour and that reps told him it was nationwide. However, it appears to be more spotty than that (I have T-Mobile service and it is working in Seattle). Customers on Twitter are complaining about getting busy signals and not being able to send texts. This is not good news for T-Mobile USA, which just finished recovering from the Sidekick fiasco in which Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) lost all of their customers’ data. Twitter user red_bone_chic, which lists “The City of Roses” as home, summarizes it well: “So I guess I’ll jump on the bandwagon and say T-Mobile SUCKS right now!!! First the shit wit the sidekicks and now this?!?!”
