T-Mobile USA Customers Lock Up Web Site Following G1 Event

T-Mobile USA customers are supposed to have first dibs on a limited number of G1 phones, which were unveiled this morning. But right now you can’t get through on the Web site. After logging into your account, you can click to pre-order a T-Mobile G1 for $179 when signing up for a two-year contract. However, since the site went live at www.T-MobileG1.com, I have not been able to get through, and an error appears, saying “We’re sorry, but online handset upgrades are temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.”

At one point, I was able to get a step further, where it offered me a G1 in black or brown. Because my current two-year contract hasn’t expired, the phone was not $179, but rather $299 after a $100 online discount, and of course by contract will be extended for another two years. However, I could not add the device to the cart.
