Sun Buys SavaJe IP, Reasons Undisclosed

Sun Microsystems has purchased some IP and technology from SavaJe, a company which specializes in a mobile OS based on Java. It’s unclear exactly what technology Sun bougnt (or if there’s anything left at SavaJe), how much it paid (although it said the amount small enough that it didn’t need to be disclosed to shareholders) or what it plans to do with it, saying only that more details would be forthcoming at the annual JavaOne Conference in a few weeks, according to RCR News. InformationWeek takes a few guesses at what Sun wants, suggesting that SavaJe’s compatibility with TD-SCDMA attracted Sun with opportunities in China.
I personally doubt there’s much call for a Java-based OS, but the technologies involved in making one could probably be used for a lot of other things, which should be of interest to Sun.
