Sprint To Prorate Early Termination Fee; Last Of The Big Four
It’s about time. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told AP that the carrier could start lowering the early termination fee it charges customers who want to drop their contract early as soon as December. Sprint, apparently, needs to update its billing software before it can do this. It is the last of the big four carriers to reduce the ETF, which has been the bane of many a wireless subscriber, who can be charged $200 or more for walking away early. Carriers argue that the ETF cover phone subsidies they offer subscribers. The fee will now be prorated and will get lower the longer a subscriber has been with Sprint (NYSE: S). The carrier was ordered by a California judge this summer to reimburse customers some $73 million over ETFs.
