Sprint Targets Hispanics In Second Life

Sprint Nextel has opened a Sprint Center in the MMORPG Second Life, in a bid to promote its services to the Latin community. The virtual Sprint Center will “stream pre-recorded one-of-a-kind performances from the Sprint-sponsored reality TV series, Concierto Clandestino”, and include performances from Latin music artists including Paulina Rubio, Obie Bermudez, Tego Calderon, Fonseca and Belinda, and eventually the telco plans to offer meet-and-greets with the stars. If the visiting avatars/gamers are so impressed with the performances they want to learn more about Sprint there will be information kiosks that link them to Sprint.com. The virtual center is designed to closely mimic the real-life Sprint Center being built in Kansas City, and virtual LCD screens will show images of the construction. Sprint isn’t the first mobile operator to try promoting itself through Second Life…last year Vodafone launched an island, although that went one step further with Vodafone keen to implement instant messaging between Second Life and Vodafone handsets.
