Spectrum Auction: Bidding Continues On High-Profile “C Block”

The highly sought after “C block” of airwaves has received a new high bid of $4.74 billion. Bidding on the C block in the FCC auction had appeared to have stalled late Thursday and Friday. Last Thursday, the C block received a $4.71 million offer, but today that was surpassed by a combination of eight separate bids for regional pieces of the airwaves that totaled $4.74 billion, according to Reuters.

At the conclusion of the 30th round today, the total bids only increased slightly to $18.8 billion from a record-high of $18.6 billion last week. The controversial D Block, which mandates that the owner must share it with public safety, did not receive a bid today, marking the 7th day in a row since the auction started Jan. 24.
