Sony Ericsson: More On The PlayStation Phone
...Or rather one more Sony Ericsson exec commenting on the possibility of one. Miles Flint, the president, said it is considering PlayStation handsets, but “we need to make sure that it is a credible phone, and be sure we are justified in putting that identity on it,” he said, according to the FT. He may be on his way out, but Flint is staying on-message: this is almost exactly what a Sony Ericsson spokesperson said back in June when it emerged the vendor had filed a patent application for a gaming phone in the U.S. Despite its success with the Walkman and Cybershot phones—which have helped Sony Ericsson move up to number four from five in worldwide handset rankings—past launches of gaming phones may be giving the JV pause for thought: Nokia’s N-Gage failed to penetrate the mass market although in November Nokia will try to re-enter mobile gaming with an N-Gage service that can be used with different devices. Flint also said that there may be a chance that it will sell TV phones, based around Sony’s Bravia TV brand, beyond the Japanese market where they launched earlier this year.
