Sell two of the top 10 iPhone apps for the entire year (iTunes link) and what do you get? $8 million. At least, that’s what Smule (aka SonicMule), developer of the Leaf Trombone and I Am T-Pain apps, has received.

The startup announced its second round of funding, led by new investor Shasta Ventures; previous backers Bessemer Venture Partners and Granite Ventures also participated. The new money brings Smule’s total raise to $13.5 million.

Smule’s Sonic Network of registered users of its apps has topped the two million mark. The company built social media capabilities into them for more virality; users can share auto-tuned songs they created with T-Pain app on Facebook and Twitter, for example. In a statement, co-founder and CEO Jeff Smith said the company hadn’t been actively seeking funding, but that Shasta’s vision for redefining “the mobile social experience” matched their own.
