Skydeck is unveiling a beta version of its online service today, which allows wireless subscribers to monitor how many minutes and text messages they have used every month. About a year ago, the company was founded by Jason Devitt, who previously started mobile application marketplace Vindigo, and Mike Wells, also formerly of Vindigo.

The service works like this: After logging into Skydeck, a user enters the same username and password they use on their wireless carrier’s Web site. Separately, they upload their address book to the site. Skydeck then matches the call log from your bill to your address book. The site lists uses that information to figure out who you talk to the most often, and whether you call them, or they call you. The site also allows you to easily flag work-related calls, or which ones cost you the most during the month, and provides a Firefox toobar to monitor how many minutes and text messages you’ve used that month. “We are helping consumers get the maximum value out of phone service,” Devitt said.

In the future, Skydeck will slowly add features and move into new businesses. Skydeck currently plans to develop a mobile version, so you can dial and make calls based on your call log. It’s currently free to individual consumers, but they’ll be adding functionality to make it attractive to businesses for a fee. Devitt added that they are also looking into features, such as building a marketplace that would recommend content or applications based on a subscriber’s habits, but there’s a lot of options. “It’s amazing how many unsolved problems there are. So much is broken about the industry,” he said.

The company is based in San Mateo, Calif. and has raised about $1 million in capital from a group of angel investors, including the principals of iHatch Ventures, who personally invested.
