Mobile TV chipmaker Siano Mobile Silicon has raised a third round of funding for $17.5 million for a total of $52 million. Draper Fisher Jurvestson’s Israeli partner, DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures (DFJTFV) led the round that saw all of the company’s existing investors—JVP, Star Ventures, Walden Israel, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Inventec Appliances—joining in. Four-year old Siano has been busy this year expanding into the Asia, where it opened offices in Korea and Japan and released its SMS1180 receiver chip in China, which supports the country’s local mobile TV standard. Its SMS1130 chip now supports ISDB-T, the mobile TV standard used in Japan and Brazil, as well as DVB-T, DVB-H, and T-DMB (release).
