Russian Mobile Users Shy Away From Talking & Texting, But Buy Content

Despite a high level of mobile penetration, Russian users tend not to use their devices for more than voice, Telecomweb reports. While the average western European user sends between 100 and 150 text messages a month, Russians send only around 10. Speaking at a local briefing, Garrett Johnston, Marketing Director at MTS, said the Russian mobile operator is not seeing a huge amount of mobile usage. Ironically, MTS reports content sales through its newly-launched entertainment portal reached $800,000 by end-January. This shows users are at least buying content – even if they’re not using their phones to communicate.
