Report: Value Of Mobile Speech Applications To Triple By 2014

The global value of advanced speech recognition technologies in mobile devices will triple over the next five years, rising from $32.7 million in 2009 to $99.6 million in 2014 according to Datamonitor. This will be driven in part by regulations in various countries around the world that restrict the use of mobile devices while driving, which manufacturers combat by creating voice controls. Mobile speech applications include the ability to control the handset`s functions, voice dialling, voice search and voice input of data reports Cellular News.

Datamonitor thinks that app stores will let smaller speech-recognition companies get to market, and notes that while the current norm is stand-alone apps on the handsets in the future it`s likely there will be significant use of hybrid network and embedded speech recognition.
