The phones that surfed the web the most in May were: the Samsung Instinct, Apple’s iPhone and the BlackBerry Curve, according to Millennial Media, which released its monthly ad report today. The data is only a sampling because it examines user behavior strictly through the ads that Millennial serves. It also does not take into account traffic from the iPod Touch. Report.

Top Devices: It said that the Samsung Instinct jumped from the third spot to No. 1 to overtake both the BlackBerry Curve and the iPhone during the month of May. Previously, the iPhone was in first, and the Curve was in second. Interestingly, while those were the top handsets, the top two manufacturers Samsung and Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) remained at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, while Motorola (NYSE: MOT) edged out LG (SEO: 066570) as the No. 3 device manufacturer.

Holiday Trends: The report also examined what affect a holiday, such as Memorial Day, can have on mobile advertising trends. It said that Wi-Fi usage dropped 10 percent over the three-day weekend, compared to other weekends in May. Likely, the reason for this is that people were traveling and did not have consistent access. While Wi-Fi usage decreased, however, total network usage rose 12 percent. In particular, such sectors as automotive and travel saw the greatest lift over the weekend. They rose 18 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
