Broadcom has claimed it offered to settle the patent dispute with Qualcomm for $6 per phone, but Qualcomm rejected the offer. “David Rosmann, Broadcom’s vice president of intellectual property litigation, said the company’s offer translated to around 2 percent to 2.5 percent of the price of each handset” reports Reuters. That puts the price of the phones at $300, and it probably refers to all phones with Qualcomm chips rather than just the “new 3G” phones which have been banned by the ITC. It’s unsurprising that Qualcomm rejected it, but if it doesn’t get any advancement on lifting the ban in the next few months the offer will start looking a lot better.
