Qualcomm Files Another Patent Infringement Suit Against Nokia

Qualcomm has filed another series of patent infringement suits against Nokia, the latest skirmish in their long-running battle over royalty payments for Qualcomm patents. “The Texas complaint cites three allegations of patent infringement involving the downloading of applications and other digital content over GPRS/EDGE networks. The Wisconsin complaint involves allegations of infringement on two patents relating to speech encoders, also known as vocoders, used in certain models of GSM mobile phones,” reports RCR News. Qualcomm cited those districts as having “speedy adjudication” in patent issues—suggesting it may look for an injunction against Nokia products to give it bargaining power in the negotiations with Nokia over renewing the license deals, which expires this monday.
