PublicEarth Raises $3 Million First Round For Location-Based Data

SF-based PublicEarth, a company building a database of location-specific information, has raised a $3.05 million first round led by Polaris Venture Partners, reports PE Hub. Information on the stealthy company is scarce though a profile from Commerce.net describes an attempt to harness rich, user-created information tied to specific locations. It sounds similar to NY-based Socialight, a mobile social networking service that allows users to place virtual sticky notes at certain locations for others to access.
