Playphone Gets $18.75 Million In Third Round Funding

San Jose-based mobile content vendor PlayPhone has announced a big third round of funding that brought in $18.75 million. The round was led by Scale Venture Partners and joined by existing investors, Cardinal Venture Partners and Menlo Ventures. The funding will be used to expand into international markets. As well as its website PlayPhone powers mobile destinations for media and entertainment brands such as SEGA, ABC, Bandai, Lycos and RealNetworks. As part of the round Sharon Wienbar, managing director at Scale Venture Partners, has joined PlayPhone’s board of directors.
