Orange Launches Channel About UK Footballer

UK footballer Frank Lampard has signed a six-figure contract with operator Orange UK to create Frank TV, a series of video diaries about the footballer’s day-to-day life. “Frank TV will not be following Frank Lampard around 24/7, however. The channel will be offering looped programming from recordings made over the last couple of seasons” reports Tech.co.uk. The article adds that the channel will be available to people who have signed up to Orange’s 3G mobile TV package.

The Guardian details some of the content in the channel: “banter between players in the Chelsea dressing room and follows Lampard chatting to Ronaldhino as he collects his runner-up prize at the World Player of the Year awards…putting wrapped presents under the tree for his daughter on Christmas Day, playing with his dogs and cooking brussels sprouts”. There’s also interviews with his father, his cousin, and other football players.

The success of this channel will determine whether or not the concept is repeated, and how much. Since this is over the 3G network there’s no technical reason why channels can’t be offered for all the major players (or minor players, or teams or whatever). Still, there are production costs and difficulties with navigating large menus which would hinder this.
