Obama Launches Branded SMS Campaign

Barack Obama has launched an SMS service to support his presidential campaign. He’s made it easy to join: People just send “Go” to OBAMA (62262)...ah, the benefit of a five-letter name. The SMS service will be used to organize events by informing supporters about important public appearances and build on the grassroots volunteer network. The service will also let users request information from the campaign, provide speeches and campaign developments, and respond to requests for their opinion and advice. As well as text the campaign will offer ringtones (the genres include hip hop, rap and techno) and wallpapers. It’s run by SinglePoint.

Obama is not the first candidate to use mobile—Clinton started in May and Edwards last year.

I think it is a joint venture between SinglePoint and DIstributive Networks.
