Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Spent $1 Billion on Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) Technology Patents: Nokia has spent around $1 billion over 15 years for full access to Qualcomm’s early mobile technology patents, reports Reuters, citing court documents. In a court filing in Delaware, the Finnish handset giant said the patents were paid in full and royalty-free, according to deals they had struck with Qualcomm in 1992 and 2001. The patent fight between the two companies spans three continents with over a dozen legal battles still pending.

Nokia Rejects North Rhine Westphalia’s Calls For Refund: Nokia won’t be paying the North Rhine Westphalia government anytime soon for the 59 euros ($92 million) in subsidies and interest the German state claims Nokia owes it after the handset maker decided to shutdown their Bochum factory. Nokia has rejected the government’s argument that the closure of the plant violated the terms of the subsidy agreement to create a certain number of permanent jobs, reports Telecom Paper. Meanwhile, the handset giant isn’t the only one unhappy with the NRW government. The works council of Nokia Bochum has said the NRW’s demands for a refund are inteferring with the negotiations with Nokia over new jobs and severance pay.
